Adelphi Helps Breast Cancer Patients in Underserved Communities on Long Island

The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program provides a range of vital services for breast cancer patients and professionals in the local community. This summer, it added a new program by introducing educational materials in Spanish that provide information about breast reconstruction.

Produced with help from a grant from The Plastic Surgery Foundation, the bilingual materials are aimed specifically at women in underserved populations who may not be aware of the surgical option, which is covered by all group health insurance plans. Bilingual social workers will use the materials, which are available in print and online, to talk patients through reconstruction issues and help them make informed decisions.
