Breast Cancer Forums at Adelphi This May

The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program is offering two free forums in May: “Feel Better and Have More Energy After Breast Cancer” and “Using Mindfulness and Meditation to Cope with Breast Cancer.” Both forums, which are sponsored by a grant from The Junior Coalition of the Manhasset Women’s Coalition Against Breast Cancer, are open to anyone coping with breast cancer and are held at Alumni House at Adelphi University in Garden City. Feel Better and Have More Energy: Intuitive eating skills that will help improve your nutrition after breast cancer.

Presented by Hillary Sachs, MS, RD, CSO, CDN

This forum will help participants to learn to use their intuitive eating skills to listen to what their body needs. Ms. Sachs will also discuss which foods are known to have breast cancer protective effects and other foods that are good to incorporate regularly.

Hillary Sachs, completed her undergraduate education at Cornell University in Education and Nutritional Sciences. She went on to complete a master’s degree in clinical nutrition at New York University, a dietetic internship at the James J. Peters Bronx VA Medical Center, and board certification in oncology nutrition through the Commission on Dietetic Registration. In addition to her work in private practice, Recipe for Health, Ms. Sachs is a nutrition manager at Northwell Health’s Cancer Institute, a consultant for Savor Health, and a regular speaker at nutrition conferences and health seminars.

Using Mindfulness and Meditation to Cope with Breast Cancer

Presented by Jacob Cooper, CH, LMSW, RMT

Being diagnosed with breast cancer and going through treatment is incredibly stressful. Participants will learn mindfulness and mediation techniques to use as coping mechanisms during treatment and beyond.

Jacob Cooper has practiced and studied yoga and meditation for many years. He currently runs Mindfulness workshops at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and Adelphi University.  Mr. Cooper also provides services as a Licensed Master Social Worker and is employed as a mental health counselor.
