Adelphi Breast Cancer Program Receives Grant from Pink Aid, LI

The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program is the recipient of a grant from the not-for-profit Pink Aid LI to provide bilingual counseling and assistance to underserved breast cancer patients at several local hospitals, along with food cards and transportation help to and from treatment.

“Pink Aid is proud to be in our sixth year of funding the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program here on Long Island,” says Diana Attner, Pink Aid Long Island, co-vice president. “These services are vital to ensuring that ALL patients have the knowledge and support they need to navigate a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment plan for the best possible outcome. Adelphi’s programs truly deliver on Pink Aid’s own mission of ‘Compassion Until There’s a Cure.’”

This grant is critical for the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program to provide free bilingual social work services to patients diagnosed at Nassau University Medical Center and local hospitals. “The program is very fortunate to have the continued support of Pink Aid,” says executive director Reyna Machado. Machado explains that the pandemic has disproportionately impacted medically underserved New Yorkers and those who are battling cancer have needs that have only compounded under multiple stressors. “The number one stressor is almost always financial,” she says.

Pink Aid’s generous grant funding facilitates two Spanish language support groups, as well as assists the program in offering individual and family counseling.

Since 1980, the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program has offered emotional support and information to people with and/or concerned about breast cancer. To speak with someone, please call the hotline at 800-877-8077.
