Free Informative Forum on Mammograms during the Pandemic

COVID-19 has caused mammography rates to plummet nationwide. Sister United in Health/Hermanas Unidas en la Salud is informing Spanish-speaking women about precautions that have been implemented for them to remain safe when getting their annual mammogram.

A free forum with panelists from the Cancer Services Program of Nassau and Suffolk, Stony Brook Medicine Mobile Mammography, and the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program will be held entirely in Spanish on Thursday, September 3 from 7 to 8 pm via zoom and telephone. “We are very concerned because mammography screenings have considerably decreased as a result of the pandemic,” says Outreach Program Supervisor Angelica Medina. Delaying screening can have negative health consequences especially for populations that already experience detection at later stages, bigger, more aggressive tumors, and lack of access to health care.

At the end of the forum, audience members can register for a free or low-cost mammogram, regardless of insurance or immigration status, and receive a $25 gift card once they complete their screening.
