Breast Cancer Hotline Volunteers Sought
Training Begins February 8

The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program seeks breast cancer survivors of all ages, race and ethnicity–men as well as women–to become volunteers. Thus, the program seeks a diverse group of volunteers to reflect the diversity of the people who are calling the hotline.

The four-day training program will take place on consecutive Tuesdays— February 8th, 15th, 22nd and March 1st from 10 am to 1 pm on zoom. This in-depth training includes presentations by nurse navigators and social workers on basic breast cancer education, active listening skills, and tips on engaging the community.

“It is so important for people who call our hotline to speak with someone who has been there,’” says Nina Foley, Hotline & Volunteer Coordinator. Adds Foley, “In addition, people who have been impacted by breast cancer in their family or amongst friends can also volunteer for our program.” Foley says that volunteers who have not had breast cancer can still help with outreach into the community, office work and fund raising.
