Welcome Nina Foley the new Volunteer and Hotline Coordinator

Nina Foley of Sea Cliff is the new Volunteer and Hotline Coordinator at the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program. In that capacity she provides guidance and support to the 62 volunteers—all women and men who are breast cancer survivors now helping others as they cope with the disease.

The Adelphi Breast Cancer Program is not new to Foley. In 2017 when she was a social work student at Adelphi, one of her field placement experiences was with the breast cancer program. “I loved interning with the breast cancer program,” she says. “It was a very supportive environment, not just for the volunteers but for me as well.” One of the social workers on staff, Erin Nau, became her mentor. “When Erin told me about the employment possibility, I jumped at the chance.”

Ehrlich-Foley’s other social work experience includes coordinator of group work services and child counselor at The Safe Center in Bethpage and therapist at a meditation center in Roslyn. She is also a therapist in private practice.

Social work is her second career. Her first was in the food industry, having received training at Peter Kump’s New York Cooking School, graduating with honors in profession French cooking, pastry and baking program in 1991. Five years ago, she decided it was time for a change. “I’ve always volunteered to work and help people,” she says, “and social work seemed the most authentic thing to me.” Her beloved grandmother was a social worker and she decided to follow that route. “We are thrilled to have Nina as the Volunteer and Hotline Coordinator,” says program director Reyna Machado. “Her clinical experience and warmth will allow us to support callers to the hotline, expand our volunteer program, and more.”

The hotline number is 800-877-8077. You are not alone.
