Adelphi Names New Dean of the College of Education and Health Sciences


Adelphi University has named Xiao-lei Wang, PhD, the new dean of the College of Education and Health Sciences. Dr. Wang, former acting dean and professor in the School of Education at Pace University, will officially take her position on July 1.

During her career at Pace, Dr. Wang led faculty to create multiple certification programs, an education minor, MEd programs for students who want to work in museums and nonprofit organizations, and various online courses and programs. Prior to Pace, Dr. Wang held the positions of assistant professor and associate professor in the Department of Psychology at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

“Positive, energetic and entrepreneurial, Dr. Wang favors a transparent leadership style and team-focused approach,” said Adelphi Provost and Executive Vice President Steve Everett. “She is known among colleagues for her enthusiastic support of faculty grant seeking, teaching excellence, cutting-edge technology, scholarship and professional development. She is a passionate advocate for culturally responsive and global-minded teacher preparation.”

Dr. Wang earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Chicago, a Master of Education in Early Childhood Development and Education from the Erikson Institute/Loyola University Chicago, and a Bachelor of Arts in English and English Literature from Nanjing Normal University in the People’s Republic of China. She is active with numerous organizations that advance the goal of excellence in teacher education, including the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the New York State Principal Advisory Committee, and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE). In addition, Dr. Wang served as an elected official of the Asia-Pacific Network for Moral Education.
