Adelphi University has been nominated in 10 categories in the annual Bethpage Best of Long Island competition. Online voting continues through December 15 and winners will be announced early in 2020.
The nominations are in three broad categories: Education, Arts & Entertainment and Services, links to which are noted below. Individuals may vote once a day.
Adelphi nominations in Education include Best College or University, Best College President (Christine M. Riordan, PhD), Best College Sports Program and Best College Sports Coach. In the latter category, four Adelphi coaches are on the ballot: Danielle MacKnight, volleyball; Pat McCabe, women’s lacrosse; Gordon Purdie, men’s lacrosse; and Dom Scala, baseball.
In Arts & Entertainment, Adelphi is represented by the Performing Arts Center in both the Best Concert Venue and Best Theatre Arts Center categories, along with Best Mascot (Go, Paws!) and Best Annual Event/Festival (Spirit Weekend). Also in Entertainment, Adelphi’s campus is in the Best Public Garden category.
In Services, the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program is in competition for Best Not For Profit.
“A Best of Long Island award is a great way to promote our school spirit and our standard of excellence—both for our local community and for prospective students and families who are considering Adelphi for their future plans,” said Kristen Capezza, MBA ’12, vice president for enrollment management and University communications. “Best College/University is an honor we can feature across every unit, school and department of the University and is a special point of pride as we visit high schools around the country and worldwide.”
Earlier this year, Adelphi and members of its community were named Best of Long Island for three 2019 categories: College President (Dr. Riordan, her second such honor), College Sports Program and College Sports Coach (Pat McCabe, women’s lacrosse coach).
