Adelphi Professor Cited as Leading Authority by the American Psychological Association

When the national organization that represents psychologists wanted to identify critical issues facing the profession, it turned to Mark Hilsenroth, Ph.D., professor in the Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology.

Dr. Hilsenroth was one of the 33 influential psychologists tapped for insights for the July/August 2018 issue of Monitor on Psychology, the monthly magazine of the American Psychological Association (APA). An expert on the impact that personality characteristics and the psychotherapy process have on treatment outcomes, he singled out the need for improved training of psychotherapists, training that emphasizes the therapeutic relationship in addition to therapeutic technique.

Dr. Hilsenroth has been honored by the APA before, winning its 2014 Division 29 (Psychotherapy) Award for Distinguished Contributions to Teaching and Mentoring.

See more about Dr. Hilsenroth on his faculty page.
