For 12 hours—from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2106 until 6:00 a.m the next day—more than 650 Adelphi University students, faculty and staff packed into the Center for Recreation and Sports for Adelphi’s fifth annual Relay for Life fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society. The event raised more than $68,000 for cancer research and cancer patients.
Teams of participants walked on Adelphi’s indoor track to show their solidarity with survivors and those lost to cancer. Those attending were treated to student performers and lively events throughout the night.
News Channel 12 and FiOS 1 Long Island were on hand to cover the event.
“It’s a wonderful way to bring a community together, to know what cancer is and does, and what cancer can’t do,” Debra Evans, senior associate director of student financial services at Adelphi and a cancer survivor, told News Channel 12.
