Dear Members of the Adelphi Community,
Though the beginning of an academic year is a time of anticipation and excitement for many, some in our Adelphi family begin this semester not knowing what the future holds.
Ten state attorneys general are urging the federal government to phase out the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, and President Donald Trump is expected to announce this week his plans for the program, which has allowed nearly 800,000 undocumented immigrants brought here as children to work and study in the United States.
At this time of uncertainty, let us be firm in our offer of compassion and unwavering support to all members of our Adelphi community. Let us be clear in our commitment to protecting the rights and privacy of all our students. Let us reaffirm our promise to do everything within our legal power to protect our most vulnerable students.
We encourage anyone in our community who is affected by these possible changes to seek support and guidance. Information on our policies and available resources can be found here. You may also reach out to Jeff Kessler, assistant vice president and dean of student affairs (kessler@adelphi.edu), for individualized advice or assistance.
Adelphi is a community that cares deeply, and I know you stand with me in support of one another.
All the best,
Christine M. Riordan, Ph.D.
President
Perry E. Greene, Ph.D.
Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion
