I have been the Bilingual Outreach Coordinator for Sisters United in Health, an initiative based here at the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program, since 2009. My passion is to help others, particularly the immigrant community. I have a Master’s in Health Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.

As part of Sisters, I provide underserved African American and Latino women with the information and resources necessary for breast cancer early detection. Disparities in access to screening, early diagnosis and quality care have resulted in African American and Latino women being disproportionally affected by this disease. My work involves developing and implementing breast health educational workshops for the community, providing education at health and wellness events, and working closely with other organizations and community leaders to reach out to populations in need across Long Island. In addition, I refer women who are uninsured and/or undocumented for free or low-cost mammograms.

I feel extremely fortunate that my job allows me to empower, educate and support women by providing them with information and resources that can save their lives.
