At Adelphi, Zachiery Naglieri ’16 Found a Home Close to Home

Zachary-NaglieriZachary Naglieri ’16 grew up next door to Adelphi University’s Garden City campus. In his words, Adelphi has always “been a home for me.”

Recently, The Garden City News ran a feature on his “all-Garden City” education, with a focus on his experience at Adelphi as an economics major and the manager of the men’s lacrosse team.

Newly hired as a business consultant at IBM’s Global Business Services firm in Manhattan, Naglieri reflected on the access Adelphi gave him to internships and career coaching. In particular, he called out the guidance and support from Neil Halloran, internship coordinator in the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business.

“His door is always open and he always wants to hear how you are doing, and who you have heard back from for jobs,” Naglieri told The Garden City News. He will always go to bat on your behalf. Neil helped me with my full-time job search this year.”

At Adelphi, Naglieri benefited from small class sizes and “a close knit community of friends” who studied together and challenged each other’s ideas. He spoke at length about the senior seminar course he participated in as an economics major, calling it a “capstone” experience.

“It is run as a Socratic seminar with one book every one to two weeks,” he said. “We sit in circles and the professor does not do a lot of lecturing—a lot of it was us sharing our views on readings and how they apply to business, raising different points of view. It really was a special experience to be able to finish your economics major like that.”
