Derner Boosts Financial Aid for Doctoral Students

Adelphi University’s Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology has a reputation for excellence in training clinical and research psychologists. Derner is also known for its commitment to diversity and social justice. In keeping with these traditions, Derner has created a new graduate assistantship program—the Derner Access Program—to make its Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology even more affordable for talented students.

Through the Derner Access Program, doctoral students will expand their contributions as research and teaching assistants, in return for which they will receive a stipend equivalent to at least one-third of tuition. Additional financial aid will be available to select students based on merit.

“I’m thrilled to offer the Derner Access Program to our deserving students, both to boost their financial support and to give them crucial experiences as scholars and teachers,” said Jacques P. Barber, Ph.D., dean of the Derner Institute. “Derner is a true pioneer in creating opportunities for diverse students, and with the Derner Access Program, we will honor our roots and fulfill our mission.”

Through the Derner Access Program, doctoral students will work alongside renowned members of Derner’s faculty as researchers and teachers. The new program significantly expands Derner’s existing Teaching Fellows Program and will enhance Derner’s highly regarded teacher-scholar model of professional preparation.

The program will be available to Derner’s current doctoral students as well as students who start the program in Fall 2017.
