Dr. Martin received her MD from Complutense University Medical School in Madrid, Spain, and specialized in Family Medicine,  and Preventive Medicine, and Public Health. She practiced as a family physician in Spain for several years  and later worked at the Madrid Department of Health  and Ministry of Health for 14 years, where she solidified her commitment to Public Health.  Dr. Martin obtained a Master’s in Public Health from Glasgow University in the United Kingdom and a Master in Health Services Administration at  Florida International University, Miami.

In the US, before starting working in academia, she worked  for several years in the Miami Dade county Department of Health. Dr. Martin has been teaching in academia since 2004. She is the director of the MPH Program at Adelphi University, College of Nursing and Public Health.
