On Wednesday, June 11 at 6 PM, the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program will host a virtual forum titled “Demystifying Palliative Care: An Intimate Discussion About Accessing and Navigating Services.” The event is presented in collaboration with medical and social work professionals from New York Cancer and Blood Specialists and JASA’s Palliative Care Supportive Services and the Long Island Center for Dignity and Support.
Palliative care is a specialized medical approach that focuses on enhancing quality of life for individuals facing serious, life-limiting illnesses. For breast cancer patients, palliative care can provide critical support by managing pain, easing symptoms, and addressing emotional and practical needs for both patients and their loved ones.
This virtual panel will bring together experienced physicians and social workers to discuss the many benefits of palliative care, explain how it differs from hospice, and answer participants’ questions. The goal of the forum is to educate attendees about the value of palliative care and empower them with the knowledge and tools to access these vital services.
Featured panelists include:
The discussion will be moderated by Angela Papalia, LMSW, Assistant Director of the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program.
“Palliative care offers crucial support for patients coping with a breast cancer diagnosis and the challenges of treatment,” said Papalia. “Many patients aren’t fully aware of what palliative care entails or how to access it. We hope this forum helps bridge that gap and provides valuable insights.”
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Once registered, participants will receive the Zoom link via email. For more information or to register, please call 516.877.4320 or email breastcancerhotline@adelphi.edu.
