Each year, the physics department’s Lab 4 Kids event brings together local high school students from diverse backgrounds and students from Adelphi’s Physics Club for a day of lab experiments. This year, the event was supported by a Future Faces of Physics grant from the Society of Physics Students, awarded to programs that promote the recruitment and retention of people from underrepresented groups in physics.
The experiments demonstrated basic principles of physics, exploring topics including conservation of momentum, optics and spectroscopy, and involving activities like the construction of simple circuits and motors. The 2018 Labs 4 Kids was held in April.
