Adelphi University will hold its third annual Legends Dinner to honor the professional and personal successes of Adelphi alumni and community members on Saturday, October 5. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at The Garden City Hotel.
Salvatore Primeggia ’64, MA ’66, PhD, professor of sociology at Adelphi, will be honored as the 2019 Legends Award recipient. He teaches courses including The Italian American Experience and Media Images of Italian Americans. Dr. Primeggia has co-authored many articles on themes such as Italian American comedy, community and identity, and the significance of the festa for Italian Americans—especially Brooklyn, New York’s Giglio Feast. He has also edited and contributed to scholarly books, projects including WLIW 21 Public Television’s widely acclaimed production The Italian Americans: Part 1, and the nationally broadcast PBS documentary Heaven Touches Brooklyn in July.
The Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award will be given to three individuals: Curtiss Jacobs ’01, co-founder and managing partner at Uptown Advisory Group LLC; Elvin T. Ramos ’06, MA ’07, DA, founder, president and CEO of Global Tassels, Inc.; and the Honorable Cynthia M. (Favata) Rufe ’70, JD, judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
In recognition of their service and achievement, Adelphi will also present the Ruth S. Harley Service Award to alumni Janet L. Ficke ’59, former softball coach, associate athletic director and professor at Adelphi, and Stephen M. Wirth ’70, administrative director of Outpatient Rehabilitation Services and Sports Medicine at NYU Winthrop Hospital.
