Successful Outcomes: Career Survey Shows 95 Percent of Class of 2018 Employed or Furthering Their Education Within Six Months of Graduating

The results are in and the numbers do us proud: According to the Adelphi University Career Outcomes Survey: Class of 2018, our career survey, undergraduate and graduate students report impressive outcomes. They leave Adelphi primed to land employment, succeed in their careers or pursue more advanced degrees. Those working are earning salaries above national averages.

The survey was conducted by the Center for Career and Professional Development. The survey provides insight into the employment or continuing education status for Adelphi University undergraduates and graduates within an average of six months of their graduation date. Additionally, the data provides detailed employment information, salary statistics and graduate school information.

This report examines career outcomes of a total of 1,325 members of the Class of 2018 (770 undergraduates and 555 graduates who received their degree from December 2017 through May 2018).

Of Adelphi undergraduate students:

  • 95 percent are employed or are in graduate school within six months of graduation.
  • 91 percent of those who are working had job offers before graduation.
  • The average annual base salary of our 2018 baccalaureate graduates is $62,895.

For graduate students:

  • 94 percent are either employed or continuing their education.
  • 90 percent are employed.
  • 93 percent of those who are working had job offers before graduation.
  • The average annual base salary of 2018 graduates is $72,247, compared to the national average graduate student salary of $65,725.

Thomas J. Ward, Jr., executive director of the Center for Career and Professional Development, noted, “By interning at companies, museums, concert halls, arenas, hospitals and nonprofit organizations across the New York City region, our students continue to complement lessons learned in the classroom with active community-based learning in one of the most diverse, economically robust and culturally enriching cities in the world. Thriving in the classroom, excelling at internships, effectively leveraging alumni contacts, expanding professional networks and developing ethical and civically engaged global citizens are all key ingredients for successful student outcomes.”

“Our students are gaining the hands-on experience and skill sets needed to be successful in the working world,” said Kristen Capezza, MBA ’12, vice president for enrollment management and University communications. “It’s clear that our students are in demand by employers and graduate schools nationwide, as evidenced by the strong outcomes seen in this year’s report.”
