Enjoying New York City is part of the Adelphi experience. So is returning to a beautiful, safe and serene campus after a day at museums, concerts, Broadway shows, ball games or restaurants.
Getting to New York is easy. The Long Island Rail Road Garden City train station is just a short walk from campus, and the ride into Manhattan’s Penn Station only takes 40 minutes.
Adelphi offers more than just easy access to the world’s greatest city. It’s located in one of the most charming towns on Long Island and boasts one of New York’s safest campuses.
Garden City is a town of grand houses, wide boulevards and a vibrant downtown. It’s also considered Long Island’s safest community and one of the safest in New York state.
Adelphi’s campus, which has been named the Best Public Garden on Long Island, reflects the safety of Garden City. Niche ranks us No. 29 on their list of 2019 Safest College Campuses in New York.
Security on campus is ensured by the University’s Department of Public Safety and Transportation. The department offers a range of resources, including an emergency notification system, emergency phones located throughout the campus, easily accessible safety tips and guides, and a staff Threat Assessment Team, which meets twice a month to address any pressing safety issues on campus.
The department oversees the campus and its 400 security cameras at a state-of-the-art command center. Cameras are only as good as the officers watching them, and Adelphi has one of the best—Eugene Doherty, an investigative CCTV specialist who was voted the 2019 Arthur B. Colwin Jr. Security Officer of the Year by the Long Island Chapter of ASIS International, the organization for security professionals.
