Maryann Forbes, PhD ’99, associate dean for academic affairs (right, with nursing student), has been named a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine.

Since 2015, seven faculty and administrators from Adelphi’s College of Nursing and Public Health have been inducted into the prestigious New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM). On November 7, 2019, two more of Adelphi’s own joined their ranks: Maryann Forbes, PhD ’99, and Keiko Iwama, PhD ’18. In addition to being alumnae, Dr. Forbes is associate dean for academic affairs, and Dr. Iwama is an adjunct faculty member.

All told, the Academy now has more than 2,000 Fellows inductees, selected by their peers from across the medical and health professions.

“I am delighted that both Dr. Forbes and Dr. Iwama have been recognized for their significant professional contributions by the New York Academy of Medicine,” said Elaine Smith, EdD, dean of the College of Nursing and Public Health (CNPH). “They join the ranks of the seven other CNPH faculty members who have been similarly honored over the past several years. The College of Nursing and Public Health is well represented in a number of the interest groups of the Academy. Moving forward, I am sure that our faculty will continue to be actively involved in this prestigious interprofessional society.”

In addition to Dr. Smith, the six faculty and administrators who are members of the New York Academy of Medicine are:

  • Deborah Ambrosio-Mawhirter 81, MS ’95, EdD, assistant professor and chair of the College’s Department of Nursing Foundations
  • Mary Jahrsdoerfer, PhD, clinical assistant professor and director of the MS in Healthcare Informatics program
  • Jane White, PhD, professor
  • Marilyn Klainberg ’63, MS ’77, EdD, professor
  • Patricia Donohue-Porter, MS ’78, PhD ’87, associate professor and director of the College’s PhD program
