SUPPORT GROUPS
Breast cancer can cause many feelings to emerge, such as shock, confusion, fear, sadness, anger and uncertainty. Our support groups provide the opportunity for participants to share their feelings and experiences with the guidance of social workers and social work interns.
 
Fall 2014 Support Group Schedule
(each support group will meet for 8 weeks)
Self-Image and Sexuality
8 weeks: Mondays, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
(starting on Monday, October 20, 2014)

Writing/Journaling
8 weeks: Tuesdays, 12:30 – 2:00 p.m.
(starting on Tuesday, October 21, 2014)

Support Group
8 weeks: Wednesdays, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
(starting on Wednesday, October 22, 2014)

  • Pre-registration is required.
  • These groups and others are offered upon request.
  • Additional groups can also be offered off-site, in the community.

WE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR INPUT!!!

We are asking everyone to participate and help with our social media efforts.
  1. We are asking for short survivor stories. These stories can be about yourself or someone you know who has been affected by breast cancer. These stories will be used on facebook, twitter and our website. We will only be posting first names. Photos can be sent along with the story to be posted.
  2. MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES
    These quotes will be posted on social media for Motivational Mondays. If these quotes are not your own and are taken from another source, please credit them when you send your quote.
  3. HEALTHY RECIPES
    We will be posting healthy recipes on our website and on social media. Please send us your recipes. If they are not your own personal recipes and are from another source, please credit where the recipes came from.

SUPPORT OUR PROGRAM – EAT A BAGEL IN OCTOBER
The month-long Panera Pink Ribbon Bagel campaign officially kicks off on October 1 with the Power of Pink Day in which 100 percent of the proceeds from sales of Panera Bread’s Pink Ribbon Bagel will be donated to three local breast cancer charities: Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program, Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition and The Breast Cancer Research Program at Cold Spring Harbor Research Laboratory. Throughout the remainder of the month, a portion of proceeds from sales will go towards these programs.
 
Locations on Long Island include: Bay Shore, Bellmore, Bohemia, Bridgehampton, Carle Place, East Meadow, East Northport, Farmingdale, Hauppauge, Hampton Bays, Hicksville, Huntington Station, Huntington Village, Island Park, Lake Grove, Lawrence, Massapequa, Mineola, New Hyde Park, North Babylon, Plainview, Port Jefferson, Riverhead, Rockville Centre, Syosset and West Babylon.


 
BRIGHTON COLLECTIBLES BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

Brighton Collectibles has unveiled their 2014 Breast Cancer Bracelet!

When you purchase the Brighton Power of Pink Bracelet at the Walt Whitman Mall location in Huntington, NY. Brighton will be donating $10.00 from every $60.00 bracelet sold to the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program. Bracelet sales will continue through the month of October.

Additional jewelry and accessories are available with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program.

 
REMEMBER: Only Brighton at the Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington, NY will be donating to the program.

When:      Brighton will be launching the 2014 bracelet September 26 – 28th. The sale of the bracelets will continue through the month of October.

THE FOURTH ANNUAL BREAST CANCER SUMMIT

The event will focus on the patient education process and the latest developments in detection, treatment and instruction. The fourth annual breast cancer summit will have Keynote Speaker Fran Drescher. Breakfast and admission are complimentary but seating is limited.

6th ANNUAL BREAST CANCER BENEFIT RIDE/HIKE

The New York Natural Equestrians are pleased to announce their 6th Annual Breast Cancer Ride/Hike. Participating is easy! Simply contact Lisa Wolf to register and receive your sponsorship sheet and trial map. You can ride OR hike the beautiful trails.

Minimum donation is $35, or better yet, encourage friends and family to “sponsor” your ride or hike with individual contributions.

100% of the proceeds from the event benefit the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program.

PAWS OF SILENCE AND HUMAN RIBBON
Wear pink to gather for a moment of silence and form a human ribbon. 
Where:  Levermore Lawn, Adelphi University
When:  Wednesday, October 15
Time:   1:45–2:30 p.m.
 
Human Ribbon will form at 2:00 p.m. SHARP to show our support for breast cancer research. All in attendance will pause for a moment of silence to acknowledge the lives of those who have passed, survivors, and those currently diagnosed. Directly after the Paws of Silence, we will form a human ribbon on the lawn between Levermore Hall and the University Center.
 
This event is open to all members of the Adelphi community, and pre-registration is required. We ask Adelphi faculty and staff to support breast cancer awareness with a $5 donation in addition to their participation.

ZUMBATHON FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
The Zumbathon for breast cancer awareness will be hosted by Adelphi University’s Accounting Society. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the program.
