In light of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, students and administrators at Adelphi’s Manhattan Center have been working hard to raise money  to find a cure. The School of Social Work Social Action Group, an organization that focuses on addressing social justice issues in and around New York City, spearheaded the action both on and off campus.

Members of the Social Action Group worked alongside Manhattan Center staff to put on a bake sale in the second week of October. They raised more than $300, donating $200 to the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program and more than $100 to the American Cancer Society.

In addition, on October 19, 2014, students took part in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Central Park. This five-mile event has raised more than $528 million dollars since it began in 1993.

Turning to collaboration to find even more success, students at Adelphi’s Manhattan Center are also working with the student association at Adelphi’s Hudson Valley Center to sell pink ribbons, with proceeds going to breast cancer research.
