Free Breast Cancer Support Groups starting in March

The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program in Garden City offers three new on-going support groups on a weekly basis. These groups allow members to share their feelings in a safe supportive environment.

On Mondays, the Support Group for Friends and Family of People Diagnosed with Breast Cancer meets from 6 to 7:30 pm.

Breast cancer can bring up various emotions and concerns for everyone in the lives of those diagnosed. This group is designed to address those needs. This group will be useful to any person who is experiencing stress and anxiety for the loved one with breast cancer or wants the opportunity to talk with others in a similar situation.

On Tuesdays, the Support Group for Men with Breast Cancer meets from 6 to 7:30 pm.
Men who are diagnosed with breast cancer can meet with other men to discuss their unique challenges.

On Wednesday, the Online Young Women’s Support Group, Under 40 meets from 6 to 7:30 pm.
Women under the age of 40 who are diagnosed with breast cancer have particular needs. Meeting online, this support group will focus on those concerns

There is no charge for these groups but it is essential that potential members first discuss their situation with social worker Erin Nau, counseling and education coordinator. Call her at (516) 877-4314, or the Breast Cancer Hotline at (800) 877-8077.

These groups are sponsored by the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Program and supported by grants from the Alpern Family Foundation and the NYS Department of Health.
